The AKG Ara C22-USB is a dual-mode USB condenser microphone built for podcasters, streamers, gamers, and musicians recording directly from a desktop computer. It captures audio at up to 24-bit, 96kHz resolution for clear speech and detailed vocal and musical recordings, with a max SPL rating of 120dB that leaves headroom for louder sources like drums or electric guitars.

Two selectable pickup patterns adapt the mic to different recording situations. The Front (cardioid) pattern focuses on a single voice or source while rejecting sound from the sides, making it a strong fit for solo podcasting, gaming, and video conferencing. The Front and Back (omni) pattern picks up sound evenly from all directions, which works well for two-person interviews or multiple performers gathered around the mic.

Setup runs over a standard USB-C connection with class-compliant operation, so it works with Mac and Windows computers and game consoles without extra software installs. An OTG adapter extends compatibility to Android devices, and an Apple Camera Adapter works with iOS devices. Onboard controls include pattern selection, a mute button with an LED indicator, and a 3.5mm headphone jack for latency-free monitoring while recording.

The Ara sets up on a desktop using its included yoke and base stand, or mounts to a boom arm or standard microphone stand, with an included adapter for European stand threads.
