The STR578 carries DMX control data between fixtures over a 50' run, using IP65-rated 5-pin XLR connectors at both ends.

Outdoor lighting usually fails at the connector long before it fails at the fixture, which is why sealed connectors matter. They keep moisture and dust off the contacts on wet decks, exposed rooftops, tented events, and architectural installs that live outside year round.

One rule decides whether you actually get that protection: an IP65 connection needs IP65-rated male and female connectors on both mating halves. Plug an IP65 cable into a standard XLR connector and data still passes, but the joint is no longer sealed, so plan the full data run in IP65 cable from the controller to the last fixture.

At 50' / 15.24 m, it handles longer hops between truss positions, or the run from a control position at the back of a room out to the rig. 5-pin wiring matches the full DMX-512 standard and the sockets used on IP65-rated ADJ fixtures, carrying the same single data universe as 3-pin.
