AT2020

The Audio-Technica AT2020 is a side-address cardioid condenser microphone built for recording vocals and instruments with detail and low noise. A fixed-charge back plate, permanently polarized condenser element works with a custom low-mass diaphragm, so the mic tracks fast transients (picked strings, drum hits, hard consonants) across the full 20-20,000 Hz range. Maximum input of 144 dB SPL means loud sources close up stay clean: a guitar cabinet, a snare, a belted vocal take. Self-noise of 20 dB SPL and a 124 dB dynamic range keep the other end covered, so fingerpicked acoustic parts and spoken word stay clear of hiss. The cardioid polar pattern reduces pickup from the sides and rear, which counts in bedrooms, offices, and shared spaces where wall reflections and computer fans would otherwise end up in the track. Setup is direct. The mic runs on 48V DC phantom power from any interface or mixer, connects through an integral 3-pin XLRM output, and attaches to 5/8"-27 stands with the included pivoting threaded mount. A 5/8"-27 to 3/8"-16 adapter covers stands with the smaller thread. At 12.1 oz, 6.38" long and 2.05" at its widest, it sits well on desktop boom arms and full-size floor stands alike, and a soft protective pouch keeps it clean between sessions.
