The large diaphragm captures a rich, transparent, true-to-life picture of a voice or instrument, with the body and detail you expect from studio reproduction rather than the thin sound of a built-in laptop microphone. The cardioid pattern picks up what is in front of the capsule and rejects sound from the rear, which keeps keyboard clatter, room reflections and background chatter out of a take recorded in an untreated room. Frequency response runs 50Hz to 16kHz, sensitivity is -40dBV, and max SPL exceeds 120dB, so loud vocals and amplifiers stay clean.
