The CAD Audio U49 is a large format side address USB microphone that handles recording and monitoring in one piece of gear. A true studio grade condenser capsule gives clear, articulate reproduction of a voice, well past what a headset or built-in laptop microphone returns, and the cardioid pattern rejects room noise arriving from behind so an untreated bedroom or office stays out of the recording. Frequency response covers 20Hz to 20kHz with 124dB max SPL, enough range for spoken word, singing and acoustic instruments. What separates the U49 is the control set on the body. A high power headphone output at 125mW powers full-size headphones for zero-latency monitoring, so you hear yourself as you speak instead of a delayed echo through software. Mic volume adjusts at the microphone rather than through a menu, and built-in echo signal processing adds depth to a vocal without a plugin chain. High sensitivity means you can work at a comfortable distance from the capsule instead of pressing into it.
