Scarlett 2i2 4th Gen is a two-in, two-out USB-C audio interface for recording vocals and guitar at a desk. Two 4th Generation preamps carry a 69 dB gain range, the clearest and most detailed yet on a Scarlett, so quiet dynamic and ribbon mics reach a usable level without an inline booster. Two Hi-Z inputs take an electric guitar or bass straight in and feel like plugging into an amp, and the line inputs handle keys, synths and grooveboxes. Conversion runs at 24-bit/192 kHz with 120 dB of dynamic range, using the same converter design found in Focusrite's RedNet interfaces. Air mode adds the presence and harmonic colour of a large studio console to lead vocals and acoustic sources. Dynamic Gain Halos show input and output levels on the hardware, Auto Gain sets a level in about ten seconds, and Clip Safe checks levels up to 96,000 times a second and trims gain before a peak clips. A custom headphone amp with its own level control powers high-impedance headphones cleanly, and separate monitor control keeps speakers and headphones independent. Loopback sends stereo audio from apps and browsers straight into a DAW for sampling or streaming.
