Scarlett 4i4 4th Gen is a six-in, six-out USB-C audio interface for players who record more than one kind of source. Two 4th Generation preamps carry a 69 dB gain range, so quiet dynamic and ribbon mics reach a usable level without an inline booster. Two Hi-Z inputs take electric guitar and bass direct with the feel of an amp input, and four line inputs keep synths, grooveboxes and outboard gear patched in. Four line outputs let you run two monitor setups with separate mixes, or send audio out to hardware effects and back in again. Conversion runs at 24-bit/192 kHz with 120 dB of dynamic range, using the same converter design as Focusrite's RedNet interfaces. Air mode adds console-style presence and harmonic colour to vocals and acoustic sources. Auto Gain sets a working level after about ten seconds of playing, Clip Safe checks levels up to 96,000 times a second and trims gain before a peak clips, and Dynamic Gain Halos show input and output levels on the unit. A custom headphone amp with independent level control powers high-impedance headphones cleanly. Loopback routes computer audio into a DAW for sampling or into a live stream.
