ZS693

The Hifonics ZS693 is a pair of 6x9 inch 3-way coaxial speakers, the largest cone area in the Zeus coaxial line and the reason 6x9s remain the standard rear deck upgrade. Each speaker handles 60W RMS and 400W peak, for 120W RMS and 800W peak per pair, at 4 ohms.

Response runs 46Hz to 20kHz with 88 dB sensitivity. The oval cone moves more air than any round speaker that fits the same panel, so bass output is noticeably fuller in a sedan rear deck or a truck rear wall, often enough to hold off adding a subwoofer.

The 3-way layout uses crossover points at 1kHz and 3kHz through a passive Butterworth network at 12dB per octave, dividing the range across the woofer, midrange, and the 1 inch neo-Mylar soft dome tweeter. The woofer cone is alpha-cellulose on a moisture resistant rubber surround, the voice coil is pure copper on a Kapton former, and an epoxy infused natural fiber spider controls travel. Overcoil cooling exchanges air across the coil during high-volume playback.

An anti-resonant stamped steel basket keeps flex out of the output, and a ferrite motor supplies the magnetic field. Cutout is 8.64 x 5.98 in with a 10.35 x 7.20 in outside diameter and 3.35 in of mounting depth, so confirm clearance below the rear deck before ordering. Grills are included for exposed rear deck and panel mounting, and can be left off behind a factory cover.
