The Kicker 44L7S8-4 is a 8-inch Solo-Baric L7S subwoofer built around a square cone. Square matters here: the cutting-edge square design means more cone area, more air displacement, and more volume than a round woofer of the same nominal size. The injection-molded polypropylene SoloKon cone carries 360-degree constant-contact back bracing that follows every contour of the square shape, with patented corner ribs that keep the corners from flexing and turning into distortion. A ribbed Santoprene surround with blue stitching handles long excursion, and the UniPlate back plate and pole piece with perimeter venting move heat away from the motor during long, loud sessions. A cast aluminum basket, large ceramic magnet, and thick tinsel leads round out the build, and satin-nickel plated spring-loaded terminals accept heavy wire. Dual four-ohm coils wire to two ohms in parallel, the sweet spot for most mono amplifiers, or eight ohms in series for a conservative, cool-running load. It handles 900W peak and 450W RMS and works in a sealed or ported enclosure: sealed from 0.33 to 0.75 cubic feet for tight, accurate bass, or ported from 0.66 to 1.0 cubic feet for more output down low. Recommended power is 450W. An 8-inch sub with a 4-3/4-inch mounting depth fits under seats, behind truck benches, and in compact hatchback cargo areas where a 12 has no chance.
