SA-12 D4 Classic

The SA-12 Classic combines 1000W RMS handling with 19mm of one-way excursion, the 12-inch size that most builds land on for good reason: enough cone area for authority, small enough to fit a trunk or truck box. A cast aluminum frame houses a custom 2.5-inch voice coil, a double-layered Nomex spider, and an SPL competition-grade paper cone.

A large aluminum Faraday ring in the motor cuts distortion and keeps response even as the cone travels, while low-distortion motor construction and high-temperature coil wire handle sustained power. Spring-loaded terminals speed up wiring, and stitched-on XL tinsel leads stay tied down instead of slapping the cone at full stroke.

Dual 4-ohm coils wire to 2 ohm or 8 ohm, which is what you want for a pair of woofers or an amplifier rated at a higher load. Enclosure options are open: 1.75 cu ft ported with 26 sq in of port tuned to 35 Hz for maximum output, 1.0 cu ft sealed for tighter response in a smaller footprint, or a 4th-order bandpass using a 0.75 cu ft sealed side and 2.25 cu ft ported side with 45 sq in of port. Mounting takes 6.5 inches of depth behind a 12.625-inch cutout, which keeps it viable in shallow trunk and behind-seat boxes.
