RN17 Omnidirectional Capsule

The RN17 Omni Capsule adds a true omnidirectional pattern to your RN17 microphone body, picking up evenly from every direction for an open, natural picture of the source and the space around it. Its gold-sputtered diaphragm is thin and light enough to track fast transients, so percussion and overheads keep their attack while room detail stays intact.

An omnidirectional pattern has no proximity effect and no off-axis coloration, which means players can move without the tone shifting and a mic placed several feet back still sounds balanced rather than thin. That makes this capsule the right call for orchestral and ensemble recording, choir work, room and ambient miking, and drum overheads where natural tonal balance matters more than isolation.

Each capsule is hand-built and individually calibrated in the sE factory, so response stays consistent between units and stereo pairs line up. Externally polarized true condenser design keeps the sound transparent, and the rugged brass housing shields the element from electrical interference while holding up to repeated swapping.
