RN17 Omnidirectional Capsule Pair

This matched pair of RN17 Omni Capsules gives two RN17 bodies a true omnidirectional pattern for stereo recording that captures the source and the space in equal measure. Each capsule picks up evenly from every direction, so an orchestra, choir or drum kit arrives with natural spatial depth rather than a narrow, close-miked sound.

Omnidirectional pickup brings two practical advantages: no proximity effect, so performers can move without the tone shifting, and no off-axis coloration, so a mic placed several feet back still sounds balanced. Paired up, that translates into accurate localization across the stereo field for spaced-pair, Decca-style and ambient arrays.

Each capsule is hand-built and individually calibrated in the sE factory, then matched so sensitivity and frequency response track together. The gold-sputtered diaphragms are thin enough to follow fast transients, keeping percussion and cymbal detail sharp while room tone stays intact. Externally polarized true condenser design keeps the sound transparent.
