SA-12 V.3 D4

The SA-12 V.3 is the current generation of the SA 12-inch, rated 1500W RMS and 3000W peak. It keeps the 2.75-inch coil diameter of the V.2 and adds 5mm of coil length, taking linear excursion to 22mm. Taller cones and wider spiders improve linearity and coil stability, with spider packs optimized using full 3D FEA.

The motor runs two shorting rings, a magnet ID Faraday ring and a pole cap Faraday ring, both reducing distortion and keeping response even across the acoustic band. In this generation the Faraday ring is locked in place by the T-yoke rather than held by adhesive alone. Venting was reworked too, with a solid pole piece from the back and a channeled pole inside, adapted from the larger U V.2 motor.

An aluminum 2.75-inch coil former, high-temperature copper wire, a multi-layer spider, and doubled-up XL tinsel leads manage heat and mechanical load. A competition-grade paper cone, strong foam surround, and custom-tooled aluminum frame, the same frame used on the U V.2, complete it. Past 22mm of linear travel the mechanical limit is 41mm one-way before coil bottom.

Dual 4-ohm coils wire to 2 ohm or 8 ohm, which suits dual-woofer walls and amplifiers rated at a higher load. Target 1.75 cu ft ported with 26 sq in of port tuned to 35 Hz, or 1.0 cu ft sealed. Allow 8.4 inches of depth behind an 11.2-inch cutout.
