SA-8 v.3 D2

The SA-8 v.3 D2 is an 8-inch subwoofer rated at 600W RMS and 1200W peak on dual 2-ohm coils, custom tooled rather than adapted from a larger platform. It has a full 16mm of one-way linear excursion with mechanical capacity beyond double that figure, which is why it stays clean and holds together in ported enclosures where small subs usually give up.

The v.3 update brings a new surround with linear geometry for more consistent travel, plus 16 chamfered gap vents that keep high-velocity air moving across the voice coil. A large aluminum faraday ring lowers distortion for a more even response, and the low-distortion motor design keeps output tied to the input signal. A patented high-strength cast aluminum frame, high-temperature coil wire, stitched-on XL tinsel leads, and spring-loaded terminals round out the build.

Box requirements are small for the output. Sundown recommends 0.65 cu ft ported with 9 sq in of port tuned to 35 Hz, or 0.3 cu ft sealed for tighter bass in a daily vehicle. Cone displacement is 0.08 cu ft.

At 6.625 inches deep with a 7.375-inch cutout, this fits builds a 10 or 12 cannot: single and dual 8 boxes behind truck seats, small trunk enclosures in sedans, side-panel builds in hatchbacks, and multi-sub walls where several 8s replace one large cone. Dual 2-ohm coils wire to 1 ohm or 4 ohms.
