SML-12 D4

The SML-12 D4 is a shallow-mount 12-inch subwoofer rated at 600W RMS and 1200W peak, built for installs where depth decides what you can run. Mounting depth is 4.45" with a 10.75" cutout, roughly an inch shallower than the SLD line while giving up very little excursion, so it fits under a bench seat, behind a rear seat, or in a slim false floor and still moves air.

Travel is rated at 11mm Xmax. A black aluminum 2.5" voice coil former pulls heat away from the windings, and high-temperature 4-layer copper voice coil wire holds up through long stretches at rated power. Stitched-on Mini-XL tinsel leads resist the lead fatigue that ends a lot of high-excursion woofers, while a vented pole piece and vented magnetic gap keep air moving through the motor. A dual-magnet design gives even acoustic response, the custom-tooled cone shape cuts mechanical noise at high excursion, and bolt-through motor construction holds the assembly square under hard use.

Small boxes are where this woofer earns its place: 0.75-1.0 cu ft sealed, or 1.25-1.75 cu ft ported with 26-30 sq in of port area tuned to 35Hz. Recommended fourth-order figures are published as well: a 0.75 cu ft sealed side with a 2.25 cu ft ported side, 15 sq in of port area, and a 6" port length. Displacement is 0.05 cu ft.

The dual 4-ohm coils can be wired to a 2-ohm or 8-ohm load, so it pairs with a wide range of mono amplifiers in a truck, sedan, or SUV where a full-depth 12 will not physically fit.
