Product Description

The AKG C214 is a large-diaphragm condenser microphone designed as a cost-effective alternative to AKG's high-end C414 line, sharing the same one-inch capsule design on an integrated suspension that reduces mechanical noise. It combines one capsule from the C414 dual-capsule system with AKG's Back-Plate Technology for a sonic character close to the C414 XLII.

A switchable 20dB attenuation pad extends headroom to handle sources up to 156dB SPL, so it can sit directly in front of loud amps, drums, or brass without distortion. A switchable bass-cut filter reduces low-end buildup and proximity effect during close-up recording, giving cleaner results on vocals and acoustic sources recorded up close. Equivalent noise level is 13dB-A with an 81dB-A signal-to-noise ratio, and frequency response covers 20Hz to 20,000Hz.

Built with an all-metal die-cast body in a matte grayish-blue finish, the C214 is designed to hold up to regular studio and stage use, resisting shocks and scratches during transport and setup. It runs on 9 to 52V phantom power at 2mA and connects via a balanced male XLR output.

This microphone fits detailed lead vocal and solo recording, along with close-miking guitar amps, drum overheads, and brass and percussion sources. Its combination of high SPL handling and low noise makes it a practical option for both home studios and small commercial spaces stepping up from an entry-level condenser microphone.

Features

    • Proven Capsule Design

The C214 shares a one-inch capsule design with the AKG C414 line, delivering a similar sonic character at a lower cost.

    • Extended SPL Headroom

A switchable 20dB attenuation pad raises max SPL handling to 156dB, letting the mic sit close to loud amps and drums.

    • Reduced Proximity Effect

A switchable bass-cut filter reduces low-end buildup during close-up recording, keeping vocals and acoustic sources sounding clear and well balanced.

    • Durable Metal Construction

An all-metal die-cast body with a shock- and scratch-resistant finish stands up to daily use in the studio or on stage.

    • Quiet Suspension Mounting

The integrated suspension mount reduces mechanical noise and stage vibration, keeping recordings free of unwanted handling noise and low-end rumble.
