Product Description

The AKG C414 XLII is a multi-pattern studio reference condenser microphone offering nine selectable polar patterns for detailed sound capture across a wide range of recording situations. Its capsule design gives it a slight presence boost and spatial reproduction similar to the legendary AKG C12 from 1953, making it a strong choice for lead vocals and solo acoustic sources.

Three attenuation levels (-6/-12/-18dB) extend headroom for close-up recording of high-output sources up to 158dB SPL, while three switchable bass-cut filters (160/80/40Hz) reduce wind noise, stage vibration, or proximity effect depending on the recording situation. A peak-hold LED displays even the shortest overload peaks, so engineers can catch clipping before it ruins a take. For live sound and permanent installations, all front-panel controls can be locked to prevent accidental changes.

Equivalent noise level is a low 6dB-A with an 88dB-A signal-to-noise ratio, and frequency response covers 20Hz to 20,000Hz. The microphone runs on 44 to 52V phantom power at 4.5mA and outputs through a balanced male XLR connector, finished in dark gray with gold accents.

The combination of nine polar patterns, three attenuation levels, and three bass-cut filters makes the C414 XLII adaptable to lead vocal sessions, acoustic guitar and piano recording, orchestral and choir capture in omni mode, and broadcast or podcast setups where a single reference-quality microphone needs to cover more than one recording scenario.

Features

    • Nine Polar Patterns

Omnidirectional, wide cardioid, cardioid, hypercardioid, and figure-of-eight patterns let the C414 XLII adapt to nearly any studio recording situation.

    • High-SPL Headroom

Three switchable attenuation levels of -6, -12, and -18dB extend headroom to handle high-output sources up to 158dB SPL without added distortion.

    • Overload Peak Detection

A peak-hold LED displays even the shortest overload peaks, helping engineers catch and correct clipping before it ruins an entire take.

    • Adjustable Bass-Cut Filtering

Three switchable bass-cut filters at 160, 80, and 40Hz reduce wind noise, stage vibration, or proximity effect depending on the setup.

    • Reliable Live Performance

All front-panel controls can be locked for live sound and permanent installations, preventing accidental setting changes during a live show.
