BeatStep Pro puts three sequencers in one chassis: two independent monophonic melodic sequencers and a 16-track drum sequencer, one track per pad. Each melodic sequence runs up to 64 steps with individual pitch, velocity, and gate time per note plus note tie, which is enough resolution for basslines, lead lines, and long evolving parts.

Sixteen projects are instantly accessible, and each holds 16 sequences per melodic sequencer, 16 drum patterns, and a controller map. That works out to thousands of combinations per project, so a live set is built and recalled without a computer anywhere in the room. Record drum parts in real time from the velocity- and pressure-sensitive pads, or punch them in with the step buttons.

Performance controls are the reason it stays on desks. A randomizer with amount and probability settings introduces controlled variation, a real-time looper and roller touch strip creates beat-repeat breakdowns, swing is set independently per sequence, and the touch-sensitive knobs respond as soon as your fingers land. Tap tempo keeps you in step with other players.

Connections reach across generations of gear: CV/Gate outputs at 1 volt per octave with 10 volt gates, eight drum gate outputs, clock sync in several standards, MIDI in and out through the supplied adaptors, and class-compliant USB. Full editing is available through the free MIDI Control Center software. It measures 16.3 x 6.4 x 1.4 in and weighs 3.20 lb.
