Product Description
Line + gradient design produces a narrow acceptance angle, the reason a shotgun mic can pull clean dialogue from several feet away in a location that has no acoustic treatment. On-axis response is natural, and off-axis rejection keeps sound from the sides and rear out of the recording, so a busy street or a room full of crew does not bury the subject.
Frequency response covers 20-20,000 Hz, wider than a dialogue-only mic, which matters for nature and ambient recording where low and high content carries the scene. A recessed switch selects flat response or an 80 Hz roll-off at 12 dB per octave to cut wind rumble and traffic.
Power is flexible. It runs on 11-52V DC phantom power from a mixer or recorder, or on a battery when the camera cannot supply power, which keeps a run-and-gun rig working.
At 5.1 oz it balances well on a boom. Includes the AT8405a clamp, AT8134 windscreen, battery, thread adapter, and carrying case.
Features
-
Clean Dialogue at Distance
The line + gradient design narrows the pickup angle so a subject several feet from the mic still records clearly without the room coming with them.
-
Power Two Ways
Phantom power from a mixer or recorder runs the mic on set, and battery operation keeps a run-and-gun camera rig working without an external supply.
-
Wider Than Voice Alone
Response from 20-20,000 Hz captures ambient and wildlife detail beyond speech, useful when the sound of a location is part of the story.
-
Cut Wind and Rumble
A recessed switch engages an 80 Hz roll-off at 12 dB per octave, trimming wind noise and traffic rumble before it reaches your recorder.
-
Stays Out of the Shot
An 11-inch body weighing 5.1 oz mounts on a camcorder or boom pole without adding noticeable heft or entering a wide camera frame.
