Product Description

The Audio-Technica PRO 35 is a clip-on cardioid condenser microphone for sax, toms, brass, and percussion. It mounts directly to the horn or the drum, so the player moves and the mic moves with them, which removes the stand forest around a busy stage and keeps level consistent no matter where the performer walks.

A cardioid polar pattern narrows the pickup to what is in front of the capsule, cutting bleed from the drummer behind you and the horn player beside you. That isolation is what keeps a horn section or a drum kit from turning into one blurred channel at the desk.

Handling is built around live use. The AT8418 UniMount clip grips the bell, rim, or lug and holds the mic in position through a set, while its shock-resistant design protects the element from knocks. The fixed-charge back plate condenser element handles up to 145 dB SPL at 1% THD, so a snare rim shot or a trumpet bell at close range will not overload it, and the 50 to 15,000 Hz response keeps the attack and air that make brass and percussion sound live.

The 6' (1.8 m) cable is permanently attached and terminates at the AT8538 power module, which takes 11-52V phantom power and outputs on a 3-pin XLRM connector. A flat and roll-off switch on the module adds an 80 Hz high-pass when stage rumble becomes a problem. At 0.3 oz the microphone adds almost nothing to the horn, and a soft protective pouch is included for storage between gigs.

Features

    • Clears The Stage Of Stands

The mic clips to the horn or drum instead of standing in front of it, freeing floor space and keeping sight lines open on a crowded stage.

    • Level Stays Put When The Player Moves

Because the capsule travels with the horn, a sax player can walk downstage without the mix engineer chasing the fader all set.

    • Holds Up To Loud Sources

A maximum input of 145 dB SPL at 1% THD means close placement on a snare rim or trumpet bell will not push the element into distortion.

    • Isolation Between Players

The cardioid pattern rejects sound from the sides and rear, so a horn section keeps separate channels instead of bleeding into one another.

    • Cuts Stage Rumble At The Source

A flat and roll-off switch on the AT8538 power module adds an 80 Hz high-pass, trimming low-end thump from the risers before it hits the desk.
