GXL1800

The CAD Audio GXL1800 is a large format side address condenser that captures a clear, articulate picture of a voice or instrument. High sensitivity is the defining trait here: it gives you room to back the source off the capsule and use distance miking on acoustic guitar, drum overheads, piano and vocal groups, techniques that need a microphone with enough output to stay quiet at lower levels. The cardioid polar pattern behaves consistently off axis, which pulls down environmental noise arriving from the sides and rear and keeps a bedroom studio from sounding like a bedroom. Frequency response runs a full 20Hz to 20kHz, sensitivity is -27dBV (45.8mV at 1Pa) into 220 ohms, max SPL is 124dB and self noise measures 16dBA, low enough for quiet vocal passages and fingerpicked guitar. The kit is complete out of the box. A studio grade shock mount isolates the capsule from floor thumps, desk bumps and building rumble, a tripod stand handles desktop podcasting and voiceover, an XLR cable connects to your interface or preamp, and a foam windscreen tames plosives on close vocal work.
