It is built specifically for lighting data rather than audio: conductors are 24 AWG and impedance measures 117 Ohm, matching the roughly 120 Ohm spec DMX-512 was designed around. Microphone cable looks identical from the outside but runs near 70 Ohm, and that mismatch causes signal reflections along the run. In practice that shows up as fixtures flickering, jumping to the wrong color, or ignoring cues entirely, usually at the end of a long chain and usually in the middle of a show. Bad cable is one of the most common reasons a lighting rig misbehaves, and it is also the easiest variable to remove.
