234XS Stereo 2/3-Way, Mono 4-Way Crossover

The dbx 234xs separates a full-range signal into individual frequency bands and routes each one to the amplifier driving the matching loudspeaker. Each driver only sees the range it reproduces well, which frees your amplifiers to spend their power on usable signal and keeps the system clean at high output levels.

The 234xs uses 24 dB/octave Linkwitz-Riley state-variable filters, the accepted standard for loudspeaker management, giving a flat summed response through the crossover region. Mode switches select stereo 2-way, stereo 3-way, or mono 4-way operation, so the same unit handles a compact two-way PA today and a three-way main system on the next job. The x10 range switch on each channel multiplies the front-panel crossover markings, covering 45 Hz to 960 Hz or 450 Hz to 9.6 kHz.

Every output carries an independent level control for matching amplifier gain structure and a phase invert switch for lining up drivers at the crossover point. A 40 Hz high-pass filter on both channels keeps subsonic energy away from the cabinets, and the LF Sum switch merges low frequencies into a single mono subwoofer output, which is how most live rigs are configured.

All connections are balanced XLR, the standard on touring and installed systems, with electronically balanced and RF-filtered inputs and outputs. Status LEDs show stereo or mono mode, low cut, x10, and phase invert per output, so the current configuration is readable from across a dark stage.

Performance stays transparent: frequency response from under 3 Hz to over 90 kHz, dynamic range above 106 dB unweighted, and THD under 0.004% at +4 dBu. The 1U chassis weighs 4.0 lb and draws 15 W.
