Product Description

The Furman MIW-DATA is a low-voltage surge protection module built for the control and data lines running behind your wall. It passes RS-232 and 10/100Mb Ethernet signals while clamping voltage spikes on pins 1, 2, 3 and 6 to ground, so a surge traveling down a network run or a projector control line stops at the module instead of reaching the equipment on the other end. Wiring is straightforward: a terminal block handles the RS-232 input, and RJ45 connectors take care of Ethernet in and out. Clamping is rated at 8-10 VDC limiting for data lines and 15-24 VDC limiting on RS-232, matching the low signal levels these runs actually carry.

The module installs into any MIW product with signal bays and pairs with the MIW-PowerKit and MIW-Power for installations that need both AC and low-voltage protection in the same in-wall enclosure. At 1 3/16" W x 5 1/2" H x 2 7/8" D and 0.49 lb, it takes up a single slot and adds almost no weight to the assembly.

That makes it a fit for ceiling-mounted projectors fed by a long RS-232 control run, rack-to-display Ethernet drops in a home theater, and networked gear in rooms where the cabling is already closed up behind drywall and difficult to service. It is UL and cUL Listed to 1449 2nd Edition, so it meets the same standard specified for permanently installed surge protection in residential and light commercial work.
