The Hifonics HFX12D4 is a 12-inch HF series subwoofer with dual 4-ohm voice coils, handling 400W RMS and 800W peak. The dual coils wire to a 2-ohm or 8-ohm final impedance, which gives room to match a mono amplifier or run two subs on one channel.

It works in both sealed and ported enclosures. A sealed box at 1.25 cubic feet keeps the response tight for music with fast bass lines, while a ported box between 1.6 and 2.0 cubic feet trades some of that control for more output on the low notes. Mounting depth is 5-5/8in with a 10-15/16in mounting diameter, so it calls for a full-size enclosure rather than a shallow one.

An injected poly cone stays light and rigid through 6.5mm of excursion, and a 1-inch NBR reinforced rubber surround allows that travel without tearing. A one-piece poly cotton spider keeps the cone assembly centered, and a poly light dust cap finishes it. High-temperature KSV voice coils and a heat dispersing vented back plate move heat away from the motor during long sessions at volume.

The chrome stamped steel basket, heavy-duty ABS motor cover, and anti-resonant rubber ABS boot handle the vibration and abuse of a vehicle install. Sensitivity is 87.25dB, so it responds well to moderate amplifier power rather than demanding the largest amplifier on the shelf. Spade style terminals accept common speaker connectors.
