ZS65CXS

The Hifonics ZS65CXS is a pair of 6.5 inch 3-way shallow mount coaxial speakers, built for doors and panels where a standard speaker simply will not clear. Mounting depth is 1.65 in, which is where these earn their place: tight truck doors, thin rear panels, and vehicles with window mechanisms close behind the speaker opening.

Each speaker handles 50W RMS and 300W peak, for 100W RMS and 600W peak per pair, at 4 ohms. Response runs 60Hz to 20kHz with 88 dB sensitivity, so nothing is given up on output to get the slim profile. The 3-way layout crosses at 4kHz through a passive Butterworth network at 12dB per octave, with a 1 inch neo-Mylar soft dome tweeter on the top end.

The woofer cone is alpha-cellulose on a moisture resistant rubber surround, the voice coil is pure copper on a Kapton former, and the spider is epoxy infused natural fiber. Overcoil cooling exchanges air across the coil through the spider, which matters more in a shallow motor structure where there is less room for heat to dissipate.

An anti-resonant stamped steel basket keeps frame ringing out of the output, and a ferrite motor keeps the magnet compact behind the cone. Mounting cutout is 5.59 in with a 7.01 in outside diameter, matching standard 6.5 in openings, so only the depth changes. Grills are included for exposed locations and can be left off behind a factory panel.
