The JBL CBT 70J-1 is a compact line array column that solves a specific problem: getting clear speech and music to the back of a reverberant room without soaking the ceiling and side walls. Sixteen 1 in soft-dome tweeters and four 5 in low-frequency drivers sit coaxially in a 27.4 in cabinet covering 60 Hz to 20 kHz.

Constant Beamwidth Technology uses analog delay beam-forming and amplitude tapering to hold consistent vertical coverage without the narrow beaming and out-of-coverage lobing that straight column speakers produce. Asymmetrical vertical aiming pushes more sound to the far area of the room, so the last row hears close to what the first row does.

A switch selects vertical coverage: 45 degrees for medium-throw rooms or 25 degrees for long-throw work. A second switch sets voicing, either flat for music or a mid-range presence peak for speech reinforcement. Horizontal coverage stays at 150 degrees, wide enough for seating that spreads well past the cabinet.

Power handling is 500 W with 2000 W peaks at 8 ohms, and sensitivity reaches 98 dB in narrow speech mode for 125 dB continuous SPL at one meter. Dynamic SonicGuard overload protection watches the high-frequency section, so a hot input does not cost you tweeters.

The fiberglass-reinforced ABS cabinet and painted aluminum grille are IP-55 rated with the optional MTC-PC2 panel cover and resist UV, moisture, and 200 hours of ASTM G85 acid-air and salt spray. The included swivel and tilt bracket allows plus or minus 80 degrees of left-right aiming and plus or minus 15 degrees of tilt, with ten M6 insert points on the back panel. Cabinet weight is 21 lb.
