The JBL Control 31 is the largest of the Control Contractor surface-mount monitors, a two-way 10 in box built for high output in rooms and outdoor areas where smaller speakers run out of headroom. Bars with live sound, gymnasiums, pool decks, and large covered patios are where it earns its size.

A 250 mm (10 in) woven-fiberglass cone woofer with a 52 mm (2 in) voice coil on a high-temperature fiberglass former handles the bottom, paired with the high-output 2414H-C compression driver, a patented JBL design with a 1 in exit and high-temperature polymer diaphragm. Frequency range runs 33 Hz to 19 kHz at minus 10 dB and 42 Hz to 14 kHz within plus or minus 3 dB, with 92 dB sensitivity.

Power handling is 250 W with 1000 W peaks in the 8 ohm thru setting, producing 116 dB continuous and 123 dB peak SPL at one meter. Coverage is a symmetrical 110 by 110 degrees, so orientation does not change the pattern. The crossover adds conjugate shaping circuitry to keep the amplifier seeing a stable load.

For distributed systems, the 150 W transformer taps at 150 W, 75 W, 38 W, and 19 W on 70V lines (100V: 150 W, 75 W, 38 W) with under 0.65 dB insertion loss.

Outdoor capability is IP-55 per IEC529, exceeding Mil Spec 810 for humidity, salt spray, temperature, and UV, and passing Mil-Std-202F salt spray. The WeatherMax multi-layer grille includes a tight-weave mesh vapor barrier, and the optional MTC-30MK marine kit extends life in highly corrosive coastal air.

InvisiBall hardware, an MTC-PC2 input panel cover, and a hex wrench are included, with ten 6 mm attachment points for suspension or the optional U-bracket. The cabinet measures 23.3 x 14.6 x 13.5 in and weighs 41.5 lb.
