The JBL CSS8004 is a 100 mm (4 in) dual-cone ceiling speaker for paging and background music. It is a straightforward, cost-effective way to cover hallways, restrooms, small offices and low-ceiling areas where a full two-way speaker is more than the space needs. Sensitivity of 90 dB is high for its size, so it produces usable level even at the lowest transformer taps, which lets you fit more speakers on a single amplifier line. Coverage is wide at 175 degrees, and the frequency range of 85 Hz to 18 kHz keeps speech clear and music listenable. The built-in transformer offers 25V, 70V and 100V taps at 5 W, 2.5 W, 1.3 W and 0.7 W, with bare wire connection and a maximum insertion loss of 1.5 dB. Driver continuous power handling is 15 W. The speaker mounts open-back in a 125 mm (5.0 in) cutout at 94 mm depth behind the grille, or in the matching CSS-BB4 back can where fire code or plenum rules require an enclosure. Grille diameter is 198 mm (7.8 in) and the unit weighs 1 lb, light enough for quick overhead work.
