Launchpad X

Launchpad X is the 64-pad grid controller built for making tracks in Ableton Live. Large velocity- and pressure-sensitive RGB pads cover clip and scene launching plus expressive playing, with polyphonic aftertouch so the pressure you hold after a hit keeps shaping the sound.

Ableton Live integration puts performance controls a single button-press away: stop, solo, mute, record arm, and level, pan, and send adjustments. One-press Capture MIDI keeps takes you played before hitting record. There are no drivers to install, so the unit is ready as soon as it is connected.

Dynamic Note and Scale modes lock the grid to a chosen key so basslines, melodies, chords, and leads land in tune, and the grid adapts when it detects a drum rack. Firmware version 2.0 added the Custom Mode keystroke widget for assigning DAW shortcuts, and expanded storage to eight Custom Mode slots configured in Novation Components.

It also works as a Live Loops controller in Logic Pro, triggering cells from the grid to sketch arrangements and record performances. Setup is automatic once the Launchpad is chosen in Logic's Control Surface Setup, with vertical or rotated orientation options. Logic Pro 10.6 or later is required.

At 2.25 lb with an 11.65 in. width, it sits on a desk beside a keyboard and travels in a bag when needed, running on USB-C bus power. Software included: Ableton Live Lite, the AAS Session Bundle of three synths, XLN Audio Addictive Keys, Klevgrand R0Verb and DAW Cassette, and the Softube Time and Tone bundle of four plugins. Novation hardware carries a three-year warranty.
