LX-4 MKII in Black

The LX-4 MKII is a 2-way floor-standing loudspeaker for stereo music and for the front pair in a home theater system. Two 5-inch composite fibre bass units and a 25mm microfibre dome treble unit work from a 29-litre bass reflex cabinet, covering 45Hz to 20kHz within +/- 3dB with bass extension to 40Hz at -6dB.

The Inverted Driver Geometry layout places the treble unit below the bass units so the path length from each one to your ears is equalized. Sound waves then arrive together at seated head height, which tightens transient attack and keeps vocals and cymbals distinct. Serrations in the driver surrounds scatter reflections that would otherwise interfere with output from the dome and cone, and the precision-tuned crossover at 3.0kHz was optimized around that flatter response. A re-engineered cabinet bracing system and improvements to the bass unit give tighter control of low-frequency movement.

Sensitivity of 89dB with a 30-120W recommended amplifier range means the LX-4 MKII pairs with most mainstream integrated amps and AV receivers, and 8-ohm nominal impedance with a 4.3-ohm minimum keeps it an easy load. Peak SPL reaches 105dB, plenty for a small or medium room at concert level.

At 920mm tall on the plinth and 200mm wide, the cabinet takes up little more floor space than a stand-mounted bookshelf pair while reaching lower in the bass. The Lux Black matte finish suits modern rooms and hides fingerprints better than gloss. It works in a two-channel listening setup, a living room system with a subwoofer, or a surround front stage.
